Bellerive Club Championship – Rematch a possibility

It’s down to the final four in the 2013 St. Louis District Men’s Championship at Whitmoor Country Club with the field of 16 match play qualifiers trimmed to only four set to tee it up Sunday morning.

In the first semi-final, Justin Wrozier of Old Hickory Golf Club, will face Dr. Andy Frost of Bellerive Country Club. Wrozier defeated Patrick Riordan in the first of two matches on Saturday at the 16th seed and knocked off 2011 District Champion Alex Cusumano in 23 holes to earn his spot in the semi-finals.

Dr. Andy Frost defeated Bryan Bohme 3&2 before meeting up with last years District Champion, Jeff Johnson in the Round of 8.  Frost defeated Johnson 4&2 to book his tee time for 7:00am at Whitmoor CC on Sunday morning.

On the other side of the bracket is another Bellerive Country Club member, Brian Lovett who will face Scott Edwards of Persimmon Woods. Lovett knocked off Tom Renken 4&3 and then Troy Halterman 3&2 on Saturday. Edwards defeated Hunter Creekmore 2&1 and Brandan Straeb 2&1.

Tomorrow’s semi-final matches set up some interesting possible finals pairings. Should Frost and Edwards win, it will be an all Senior final as both players regularly compete in the over 50 divisions in other amateur championships. Should Brian Lovett be the one to meet Frost in the final, it will be a rematch of the Bellerive Country Club – Club Championship that was played earlier this year before the club hosted the 74th Sr. PGA Championship. Lovett and Frost are regulars in the finals of the Bellerive Club Championship, so it would be interesting for Lovett to get another shot at Frost but away from Bellerive.
