So many players with local ties are teeing up these days on professional tours, it’s sometimes hard to keep tabs on where everyone is playing.  But here’s a quick update on where many of them are playing this weekend and how they are doing.

U.S. Open

Scott Langley    (75-70)     Made the cut and is only 6 shots off the lead set by Phil Mickelson and Billy Horschel.  Langley will be able to get a night’s sleep before coming out tomorrow for a mid to late morning tee time at Merion Golf Club.  Langley has figured out how to play this championship having made the cut in each of his previous two U.S. Opens.

Web.com Tour

Jace Long       (71-63)        Playing in his Web.com debut as a professional, the University of Missouri standout is off to a great start in Wichita.

Peter Malnati     (68-67)       Currently T4 in Wichita.  Wouldn’t it be great to see to former University of Missouri players in the mix on Sunday on the Web.com Tour?

As the golf world focuses most of its attention on Merion Golf Club this week for the 2013 United States Open, the grind continues for players on the developmental tours.

As the most diplomatic of the major championships, the U.S. Open features many players who would otherwise be in the field at an NGA Tour, Adams Tour or Web.com Tour event. So as players in Wichita, KS at the Air Capital Classic compete, they will also be keeping an eye on the action at Merion where many of their friends and fellow tour players are vying for our national championship.

Several players with St. Louis or Missouri ties are in the field this week in Wichita.  One particular player is making his professional debut.  Jace Long, former University of Missouri standout, posted Even Par on Thursday at Crestview CC.

Dustin Garza, a regular participant in Missouri Golf Association championships and a former Wichita State player, posted 5-under in the first round and trails Alex Prugh by 3 shots entering the 2nd round.

Justin Bardgett, a past Missouri Amateur Champion, posted 1 over par on Thursday.

Michael Letzig, a former Missouri Amateur Stroke Play Champion finished his first round at 2-over.

Peter Malnati, a former University of Missouri player, posted 68 (3-under) on Thursday.

Brice Garnett, former Missouri Western player, posted 1-over par in his first round.
