Alabama Wins SEC Men’s Championship

ST. SIMON’S ISLAND, Ga – The University of Alabama captured their sixth team win of the season at the SEC Championship, Sunday. Alabama erased a three-stroke deficit entering the final to come from behind and win. Alabama shot final round 290(+10), the low round of the day on the difficult Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club. The victory is the Crimson Tide’s fourth straight win, and second SEC Championship in a row. Leading the way for the Crimson Tide was junior Cory Whitsett, who finished T3 individually, carding a 54-hole total of 209 (-1). Whitsett is arguably the hottest golfer in the country and has three individual collegiate victories this spring. Juniors Trey Mullinax 213(+3), and Bobby Wyatt 214(+4) also finished inside the top-10 individually. Sophomore Justin Thomas shot an even par 70 in the final round to vault into a tie for 12th. Senior Scott Strohmeyer finished in a tie for 27th. Sebastian Cappelen from the University of Arkansas captured the individual title with a 54-hole total 202(-8). Cappelen also won the Patriot All-America earlier this year.
